Step 1 - Sketch the Barn's Base Shape
The first step in drawing a barn is to sketch the base shape of the building. For this step, use a light or removable medium like a pencil.
Shape the building
Begin by drawing a rectangle that is narrow at the bottom (shown in red). Then add another rectangle shape above that narrows towards the top. Lastly, add a triangle at the top for the barn's main shape. This will be the foundation of your barn drawing.

Add Large Elements
Around the top of the top two base shapes, create an outline with some space to create the roof. Then, draw a square at the bottom of the barn for the door. You can also add a smaller square shape on top of the main roof for the hayloft.

Step 2 - Add your Barn Details
With the basic shape in place, you can start to add more details to your barn. Begin by adding texture to the walls by drawing vertical lines to represent the wooden planks. Then, add a vertical line through the barn door with a large "X" through it.
To add even more character to your barn, you can add some additional details, such as a weather vane or a sign above the door. You can also draw trees or add farm animals by drawing chickens or cows in the background.

Step 3 - Define the Barn Outlines
In this step, swap to a dark or defining medium to begin making your outlines. You can use any medium that is darker than your rough sketches, such as a pen or monoline Procreate brush.
Begin your line art by tracing the sketch lines and roof of the outer barn shape.

Next, line the hayloft, door frame, and door lines. Add some interest to your farm clipart by creating a double outline for the frames.

Finally, finish your farmhouse clipart by outlining the details. Add a unique line designs to your barn planks by leaving gaps in the plank lines. After defining all your sketch lines, go ahead and clean up your drawing by erasing any reaming sketches.

Step 4 - Color and Shade your Drawing
Take your drawing to the next level with color, shading, and texture. Start by choosing the colors you want to use. Typically, barns are red, but you can choose any color palette you like.
Add depth and dimension to your illustration by adding darker shades of red below the room, window, and door. See how to blend colors using these four easy methods in Procreate.
