In today's drawing guide, we will show you how you can draw your very own rocket in just a few steps. You will be blasting off from basic shapes to adding color in no time. With your space drawing, you can create wall art, rocket ship clipart, and color-by-number pages. The creative possibilities are endless with our step-by-step instructions!

Before we head down the steps of our rocket ship drawing, get all of your supplies together. Traditional art users need a medium for sketches, outlines, and color. Create digital artwork by using an art app such as Procreate or Illustrator.
If you are using Procreate like we are, these versatile Procreate brushes are perfect for your rocket drawing. You can make pencil sketches, create outlines and add colors and texture with this tool kit.
Step 1 - Create the Base Shape of your Rocket
Create rough sketches of the rocket's base shape using your sketching medium. If you don't have a pencil, use a light color of your medium, and cover it up when outlining or adding color.
Create the first basic shape of your rocket clipart by sketching a long vertical oval. Below your oval, draw a smaller narrow oval that is a little wider.

Next, we are going to fill out our rocket shape. On either side of the bottom oval shape, draw a curved line going up toward the top of the big oval. Finish off your base shape by sketching the pointed top of the rocket, as we did at number four below.

Step 2 - Add the Rocket Details
In this step, we are going to add our details to our rockets. Feel free to add fewer or more details to your rocket. We will add an exhaust nozzle, a window, fins, and flames for our easy rocket drawing.
Add the Nozzle and Window
Let us first sketch the rocket exhaust nozzle where the flames come out. In the center of your bottom oval, draw a squared shape that goes past the oval. See our example sketch at number five. Then, in the center, close to the top of your rocket, sketch a circle for the window.

Add the Fins and Flames
Add the fins to the bottom half of your rocket. You can add two, one on the left and right, or add three as we did. For the center fin, your view is straight toward it, so only draw a rectangular shape with rounding.
Add the flames coming out at the bottom of your rocket for our final detail. We made a small flame with a more significant flame around it.

Step 3 - Outline your Rough Sketches
Once you are done making your rough sketches, grab your lining medium. In this step, we are going to create a rocket outline by darkening the rough sketches. As you are creating your rocket line art, be sure to pay close attention to which sketch line you want to make permanent.

Step 4 - Add Color to your Rocket
In our last step on how to draw a rocket, we are going to add color to our rocket. For your rocket, you can use any colors you want. For our color palette, we use red, blue, and white for the rocket and yellow and orange for the flames.

We used darker shades of our color to add shading to your rocket. We created a half-shading for our rocket by using darker shades on the right, with white line detail on the left.

Great job, your rocket is ready to blast off! Make a collection of space-themed drawings, or add your rocket to your next space clipart project.
