In this tutorial, learn how to install and erase brushes in Affinity Designer.
In this tutorial we will give an overview on installing brushes on the iPad and PC/Mac versions. Both processes are similar but the tools and menus may be placed in different areas in the program. Installing and deleting brushes in Affinity Designer is fairly easy and essential to keeping your brushes organized.
Installing Brushes on iPad
Regardless of whether you have a vector brush or a pixel brush the installation is the same process. Make sure that you are in the correct persona for your brush type.
So if you have a vector brush you’ll want to be in Designer Persona and if you have a pixel brush you’ll want to be in Pixel persona.
We are using this artistic brush set which contains the same brushes in vector format and in pixel format.
Step 1 - Locate and open the Brush Studio
On the right hand tool bar, click on the icon of the paintbrush. This is will open the brush studio where you will install your new brushes.

Click on the Brush Studio and another panel will pop up. Here you can see what brushes are installed, add Categories and much more. Select Import Brushes to add your new ones to the Brush Studio.

Step 2 - Select the brushes you want to install
Navigate to where the brush files are saved. Select the brushes you want and they will automatically install.

A new category will appear in your brush studio with your newly installed brushes.

Installing Brushes on PC/Mac
Step 1 - Locate then open the Brush Studio
On the right hand side of the screen you will see a selection of tool panels. Click on the one named Brushes and it will open your Brush Studio.

Click on the Menu icon, shown as three lines then Import Brushes.

Step 2 - Install your brushes
Choose your brushes and click on Open.

A new category will appear in your brush studio with your newly installed brushes.

Now that you know how to install brushes, you can start using your brushes in Affinity Designer.
How To Delete Affinity Brushes
The process to remove brushes is the same for all platforms.
Select the menu in the Brush Studio and click on Remove Category. The program will ask you to confirm and then delete the category. You can always add it back again as long as you have the original brush files. Design Bundles is highly recommended because the files will always be available in your account should you need to download them again.
