How to Kiss Cut and Die Cut Stickers with Cricut

What are Kiss Cut and Die Cut Stickers?

Kiss and Die mainly refer to the type of cut you will be using for your stickers. A kiss cut, often used to create sticker sheets, only cuts through a single layer of sticker material, leaving the backing untouched. This is an ideal option for printable planner stickers or cute stickers for parties or products.

The die-cut, on the other hand, cuts through both the sticker layer and sticker backing, creating several individual stickers that still have the backing intact. These are perfect for adding as Thank You gifts to orders. Make stickers for events, giveaways to create awareness or just for fun. You could also create stickers to promote your store name or brand.

Now that you have an idea of the difference between the two types of cuts, you can make a better decision on how you want to proceed with your project. Some people can get frustrated when cutting stickers because it either cuts right through or not completely. With Cricut's handy material selection, we hope to help you avoid this issue and make cutting stickers one of your favorite crafts.

Step 1 - Select the Sticker Cut Material

Once you have printed your stickers using Cricut Design Space, the program will direct you to the next page. On this page, you will be able to adjust the material settings to cut your sticker paper. You can choose the material from your favorites if you have already saved it before or click on Browse All Materials to select another material.

For Kiss cut stickers, click on the Search Bar on the right-hand side of your screen and type in Sticky Note. In the results, select the Sticky Note option. This is the recommended option for kiss cut stickers and gives a great result. It is also recommended to do a test cut first when using a new brand of paper just in case your material is thicker than usual.

For Die cut stickers, click on the Search Bar and type in "cardstock". Then, select Medium Cardstock 80 lb (216 gsm) from the results list. It's so easy to find and select the type of material you want with Cricut Design Space.

Step 2 - Cut out your Cricut Stickers

With the correct settings in place, follow the on-screen instructions. Place your chosen sticker paper on your Cricut cutting mat, check that the Fine Point blade has been inserted into the right-side carriage, and then load your mat into the cutting machine.

Cricut will detect your mat and blade, and then ask you to proceed by clicking the Go button on the computer. You can also press the "Go" button on your Cricut Machine. Wait for your cutting machine to complete the cut, and then once done, gently remove your sticker paper from the mat.

If you choose to do a kiss cut, the stickers and backing paper will be removed together. If you have selected to create die-cut stickers, remove the excess paper first. The stickers will remain on the mat and can then be removed individually.
