Removing Unwanted Cut Lines in Silhouette Studio

Today, we'll show you three methods of removing unwanted cut lines in Silhouette Studio.

Today you will learn about removing unwanted cut lines in Silhouette Studio. There are actually a few ways of doing this but we will show you three. You may want to remove cut lines because you don’t want those areas cut. Perhaps you want to print but without the cut lines? You may also want to remove objects that cut into part of a design. So follow our guide as we show you how to remove unwanted cut lines in Silhouette Studio.

We are going to use this mom svg bundle but we have more mother svg designs for you to choose from.

Be sure to download and unzip your files before beginning. If you are new to SVG files, we have a great tutorial on using SVGs in Silhouette Studio to help you out.

Method 1 - Remove cut lines in Send Panel

Using the Send panel to select and remove unwanted cut lines is one of the quickest ways to do it. This helps to retain the design elements without having to remove them. Open Silhouette Studio then go to File > Open and choose your selected design.

With the design selected, right click > Ungroup so the elements are separated.

Ungroup the design elements

Now click on the Send panel top right. Here you will have all of your cut settings. We want to remove the cut lines from the center script so it doesn’t cut.

Click on the script “Bear” then go to click on No Cut under the cut settings. As you can see, the cut lines were only removed from the script.

Method 2 - Remove Elements from Design

Another way to remove cut lines is to actually remove or reposition the design elements. As before, right click the design and ungroup. For this example we changed the Stroke color to red so it’s easier to see.

We want to move the word “Blessed” down beneath the design. Since we have ungrouped everything, simply click on the area you want removed or repositioned. Now you can either delete it or just move it to another place.

You may sometimes find that not everything has been ungrouped. So you may have to ungroup a few times.

Method 3 - Remove the Color from Cut Lines

When you remove the color of the cut line, you will still have cut lines in the Send panel. This option is used when saving as a PNG, JPEG file or when printing. When your cut lines are visible, they will show up in the saved image. You don’t want this to happen.

Design shows cut lines when saved

The same goes for when sending to print in Silhouette Studio. You can see the cut lines in the Print Preview.

To prevent this, click on the Stroke panel top left of the screen then click on the No Color icon. It looks like a hatch box. You can also remove the stroke by going to the Fill panel on the right.

Now you can save your design or print without the worry of cut lines showing. You can further edit your design such as changing patterns on SVG files and using advanced color settings in Silhouette Studio.
