How to Make Circle Monograms for Cricut or Silhouette

Monograms are extremely popular for personalized projects. The Monogram Maker is a great online tool for creating monograms. It features a selection of fonts and frames. We will show you how to make a circle monogram for Cricut or Silhouette.

Step 1 - Type out the text and choose the font

Monograms can be enhanced with font and frames. On the Monogram Maker page, you will see the options to edit on the left hand side. At the top of the screen are four steps listed on how to proceed.

The editing options are color coded to correspond with these steps. Type your letters under the green option Enter your Monogram Letters. The size of the Monogram letters can be changed with the resizing handles

Next, click on the orange option Select a Font. Scroll through the wide selection of fun fonts available. With the letters selected, click on the font to apply.

Step 2 - Add a Frame to the Monogram letters

The Monogram Maker has plenty of frames to choose from. From elegant and modern to fun and colorful, there is something for everyone.

Choose a frame from Select a Frame under the orange section. Resize the frame if needed and position the letters in the center.

If there is a problem selecting either object, click on the layer name under the Layers Panel. At the top of the frame is the Rotation Handle.

You can manually adjust this or use the Color & Adjust option. We will discuss color, scale and rotation in the next step.

Step 3 - Change color, scale and rotation

At the bottom of the page, in the blue section, are the color, scale and rotation options. Click on the Color option to open the color menu.

You will see the color palette and the transparency option. Adjust as needed. Below the color palette and transparency is the option to adjust color more accurately.

Clicking on the arrows toggles between the HEX code, RGBA (Red, Green, Blue, Alpha) and HSLA (Hue, Saturation, Lightness, Alpha).

Here you are able to input specific color values.

Next, use the sliders for Scale and Rotation to adjust the frame. This can be a little more accurate than manually adjusting with the handles.

At the top right of the canvas are further options for adjusting. The frame can be moved to the top with Send to Front. This will change the order of the layers. The Send to Back button is next, which is useful when layering.

Center Vertically and Center Horizontally align the layers to the center of the canvas.

A background can be added under Select a Background. But as we will be saving this as a cut file, it's not necessary. Adjust the letters in the same way as the frame by changing the color.

Step 4 - Save the Monogram

Once your monogram is ready you are able to save it in various formats. Click the Save button and under the Save menu options select SVG. Remember to give your file a name. If you are using the free Silhouette Studio version you can also save as a DXF file. Click Download.

Before you can download the file, Monogram Maker will request an email address. Type in your address then click Download. The file format will be downloaded to your system.

Step 5 - Open the file in Silhouette Studio or Cricut

Monogram Maker simplifies the process of creating and saving monograms. The chosen file format such as SVG or DXF can be opened in cutting software like Silhouette Studio and Cricut Design Space.

Open Silhouette Studio, then click on File, Open and locate your file. Once opened on the canvas resize and reposition the monogram if needed. Click on the Send button and you will see the cut lines. It's as easy as that.

Open the file in Cricut Space

In Cricut Design Space click on New Project then on the left side click Upload. When the Upload menu shows click on Upload Image then Browse to locate your file.

Click Upload bottom right and when loaded click the design then Insert Images. Once open on the canvas make any adjustments if needed.
